Blue Tav suggested a thread on Barriemore Barlow in the Moon topic. I?ll initiate it.

Barriemore, Barriemore, Barriemore? so much good memories.
His playing with Tull was so intricate and tasty. Check out masterpieces like ?Thick as a brick? and ?A Passion play??Unbelievable!!

And ?Songs from the wood? and ?Stormwatch? and so on... He?s the one who got me into wanting to be good on snare. He?s such a great snare drummer?so clean?perfect rolls?

?Bursting out? is one of the best live prog album of that era (along side Rush?s Exit Stage Left, Genesis? Seconds Out, Gentle Giant?s Playing the fool, Kansas? Two for the show).

I remember that I bought Yngwie Malmsteen 1st solo record only because Barriemore was on it. I didn?t even know who Yngwie was. The drumming was very good but that heavy metal stuff was not the best vehicle for Barrie.

I have a friend who played drums in a Jethro Tull tribute. I always admired the time and effort he put to learn all of Barriemore?s intricate parts. I mean, they were doing a set just with ?Thick as a brick? which is a 45 min. non-stop note fest?

Any of you who were into Tull??

I bought Malmsteen's (can't spell Ingvay) disc too because Barriemore was the drumer. He also KILLED on the Pages solo disc Outrider. Man, I loved his beats. Minstrel in the gallery? Forget it...

I ripped Bursting and I'll put some choice cuts up later.

There is some video of him playing on one of the released Tull videos. He was sick.

I have Bursting Out on LP... Have not heard it in years, not having a turntable anymore... I agree Tombo, Bursting Out is an awesome Live album... One of my favorites of that era. I also remember Thick as a Brick, Stormwatch...

I also remember there was this Live Tull video with Mark Craney on drums, dated from the late 80's I think. It also had "U.K."'s Eddie Jobson on Keys and electric violin. As said before on HOD, Craney is another GREAT unsung hero...

I have always been one of the biggest Barriemore Barlow fans and now that I think of it, I was wrong to say that other drummers were responsible for getting my thinking about double-kick. It was Barrie.

He is one of the greats and so underrated. I am a Tull maniac and have been mourning his departure ever since that terrible event.

Barrie will always be so special for me.

'Minstrel' is great but other favorites are 'Songs From The Wood' and 'Heavy Horses'.

Peter...

Do you happen to know what caused Barriemore to leave the band??

Wow, it's great to see so many 'Barriemore' fans !! My initiation to 'Barrie' was on the 'Stormwatch' tour. U.K was opening and 'Terry' was blowing like mad, at this point i i was like 'that JT drummer is going to look like nothing when they come on' because i didn't know anything about 'Tull' nor 'Barriemore'. Jethro tull came out and Barriemore was so exciting to watch, the show built up so much in intensity and i came out of there knocked out by both performances. 'Barrie' is so tasty and on the edge,he has great technique and identity, and he's extremely musical in his phrasing, what more to ask for in a drummer !
How many songs does he play on 'Page's' 'OUTRIDER
cd? That's about the only recording i don't have of him. Anyone hear 'Kerry Livgren's- Seeds Of Change'? There's some classic 'Barrie' on that recording !

Right on, guys. Barlow.
I remember that I bought Yngwie Malmsteen 1st solo record only because Barriemore was on it. I didn’t even know who Yngwie was. The drumming was very good...
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">2nd THAT. I have a gtrst friend who turned me on to that one, & just after hearing YM's take on that Alcatrazz tune "Evil Eye" [which i believe had Jan Uvena on kit?].

I rem a big article BB had, i believe it was for MD, where he discussed the recording of that 1st YM ["Rising Force?"] album. Included some humorous anecdotal story where he talked about his or YM's "tapping their foot" during the recording process of it.

I mentioned a good while ago about a Tull tune, I believe off Heavy Horses?, where he does these great fills in the context of a trip-feel, like 3 or 6/4, or something [from memory]...killer fills, beyond Peart & a lot of other cats who were highly & popularly regarded as "the guys" back then. Someone in here new the exact name of the tune, but i've forgotten it again since. [Ben, maybe? ]

What I have gathered and this may not be all the information but basically, the schism took place after the untimely death of John Glascock, who was a very close friend of Barrie's. He'd inherited a heart deficiency, unfortunately.

Tull was touring hard, as you may recall. The rigorous schedule was tough on John. What I have heard is that Barrie thought it was too hard for John to keep up with and that there was a choice in the matter, to lighten up the schedule for his sake. They did not lighten up. John could not finish the tour. He died. Barrie has never forgiven Anderson for what happened. This is what I know about it.

I am sure that there is more to it but this is the basic story. It's very sad.

Barrie was one of my favorite drummers and biggest influences. Even I forget just how big, sometimes. I LOVE his work and his contribution to Tull was gigantic.

I still listen to them and enjoy their music.

Barrimore's drumming for Thick as a Brick and Passion Play was fantastic! I was fortunate to see Tull during the Passion Play tour. What a show!!!!

You lucky BlueTav and Andy! You caught Barriemore on 2 great tours!

I have seen Tull once but on the Under Wraps tour. Under Wraps is a terrible recording?the worst of Jethro Tull (mostly electronic). Ian Anderson even attempted to play the drums on it?Terrible! I was worried they would play too much of it in the show.
Show indeed started with all the musicians being completely wrapped in paper (even the drumkit) playing Under Wraps (like if they wanted to hide while playing this song). Ian Anderson joked on the fact that he was aware that his last album was total crap but that he nevertheless had to play a bit of it for promotion. After this tune, the musicians started unwrapping and the drummer started blowing with the paper flying all over the place. Crazy! Drummer was Doane Perry on his 1st tour with Tull. He is an awesome player too!! They got rid of the Under Wraps stuff and went into good ol? Tull stuff!! But one of the ?musicians? was still wrapped on stage. Anderson came by and started unwrapping to discover?A NUDE GIRL!!! She did a couple turns and ran offstage? Those guys were nuts! They then threw giant green balloons in the audience?A great and entertaining show!
